Julianna Takacs has been a student of yoga & meditation for over 20 years and teaching since 2004. For 15 years Julianna was based in NYC, teaching primarily at The Shala in Manhattan and Greenhouse Holistic in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  In 2011 she founded and directed the Yoga Hoedown, a multi-day yoga and music festival in Upstate NY that hosted 150 people every Labor Day weekend through 2016.  In addition to leading over 30 retreats locally & internationally, Julianna co-led the Greenhouse Holistic 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training from 2011 – 2016 and continues to be lead faculty for The Shala 200 & 300 hour Yoga Teacher Trainings in NYC. Julianna also served as faculty at Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY for their accredited course in Yoga for Wellness, and was featured in Time Out NY several years in a row as one of NYC’s top yoga classes.

Julianna’s classes aim to offer clarity and focus through steady attention on the breath.  Mindful movement, thoughtful sequencing and carefully articulated guidance are woven with meditation, yogic philosophy and classical Sanskrit chanting.  Her hope is for students to leave a class, retreat or training with a bit more space, inner quiet and personal ease. Julianna’s own studies include Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Prana and the formal study of Sufism in the tradition of Hazrat Inayat Khan since 2002. She has studied yoga extensively with Ruth Lauer-Manenti, Barbara Verrochi, Kristin Leigh, Jeffrey Migdow, Priti Robyn Ross and has traveled to India to study with Sharath Jois and Saraswathi Rangaswamy in Mysore. Julianna has also studied with John Campbell, Tim Miller, Kevin Gardner, Edwin Bryant, Sharon Salzburg and Robert Thurman.  Her meditation studies are primarily with Pir Zia Inayat Khan and Devi Tide. Julianna holds a BFA, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Purchase and received her yoga teaching certification from the New York Open Center in 2004. She is also certified in life coaching and master level Reiki.

After getting married and moving to New Hampshire in 2017, Julianna taught locally and led the Advanced Yoga Studies & Teacher Training with Julianna Takacs, a 9 month immersive training in Peterborough, NH.  In the summer of 2018 Julianna relocated again, this time to the high desert of Northern New Mexico after her and her husband Brad were sought out to help open a retreat center north of Santa Fe. After four years away, Julianna & Brad realized it was back in New Hampshire that they truly wished to settle down and build community. Julianna is currently teaching in-person at  Tria Yoga in Peterborough, as well as classes online. When not teaching yoga, Julianna serves as Director of Programming for the Inayatiyya.
